Meet Dusty, one of our Dream On 3 recipients!
Dusty: Dusty is quite the extraordinary young man. At birth, Dusty suffered from a stroke which has left him with several disabilities and challenges, one being epilepsy. He is now 20 years old, and takes numerous medications to get through his daily struggles. But, he always has a smile on his face and has a love for life and others. Once you meet Dusty he will certainly leave a mark on your heart!
Dream On 3 is partnering with the folks at HIS Radio, in Charlotte, to present Dusty with a very special Christmas present/wish of his own. To give you some insight on what’s been going on, please read the article below…
…WYFF News 4 at Noon aired a story Tuesday about Dusty Hardee, a student at Dorman High School who also attends the Charles Lea Center. This center serves more than 1,400 people from newborns to senior citizens, with disabilities and chronic medical conditions in Spartanburg County.
The center is where Dusty got the idea to give rather than receive. He is using his money to buy gifts for others, taking angels off the Charles Lea Center tree. The Angel Tree sponsors men, women, and children in the community who might not otherwise receive Christmas gifts.
All Dusty asked for in return was to get letters. The request for mail made via the Facebook page, Cards for Dusty, has gotten a huge response, with bins full of cards being delivered daily.
“He never gets mail. He’s 20. We all hate getting mail because of the bills. Every time I go to the mailbox, he wants mail and none of it has his name on it. I try to give him mine but he knows that his name’s not Patti, it’s Dusty. That’s what he said, he just wanted mail,” Dusty’s mom, Patti Lindsey, said.”
Dusty’s kindness has gone viral, and many people want to give back to him this Christmas! When interviewed, Dusty was asked what his dream gift would be, and he responded that he would love to see a South Carolina Gamecocks game in person! That’s where we come in… In partnership with HIS Radio and the Duck Commander Independence Bowl, Dusty received a magical “Dream” of his own!
His Dream: On Friday, December 26th, Dusty arrived in Shreveport, Louisiana, home of the 2014 Duck Commander Independence Bowl. That evening, Dusty was invited to participate in the parade by riding on the South Carolina Gamecocks float. He stayed at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino, where the Gamecocks also stayed. On Saturday, Dusty had pre-game field access to meet-n-greet the South Carolina players, as well as throw a few passes. After watching the Gamecocks defeat the Hurricanes from amazing seats, Dusty was able to have on field access for the awards ceremony and to meet a couple members of the Duck Dynasty crew! It truly was an unbelievable and unforgettable “Dream Come True” for Dusty!
There are several people and organizations we would like to thank for making this Dream Experience possible:
