Carter's Dream

Meet Carter

Carter Muir has lived with epilepsy since the age of 5, but with the help of his doctors, his seizures remained controlled for a long time. As Carter grew, so did his love of soccer. In fact, he has excelled so much that he has become a successful club league player.

Carter’s mom also had epilepsy during her childhood and, over time, she eventually outgrew it. She was hopeful that the same would be true for her son, but the exact opposite occurred. When Carter became a teenager, his condition worsened and what was once controllable became unpredictable grand mal seizures. Since the first of those in 2016, he has had 10 more, each leaving him and his family more anxious than before.

Doctors are still trying to determine the cause and create a plan that will, hopefully, allow Carter to one day regain a sense of normalcy. In the meantime, it is too dangerous to leave him alone, so activities, such as driving, will have to wait. The doctors have given him permission to continue playing his favorite sport, however, he must remain under constant supervision.

Soccer is very important to Carter and his mom tells us that when he is playing he is genuinely happy.  Carter’s personality is outgoing and funny, he is someone that everyone loves being around. He is so well-liked, he was not referred to Dream On 3 by just one doctor, he was actually referred by an entire team of doctors and nurses for the opportunity to become a Dream Recipient. Carter’s favorite soccer team is the LA Galaxy and his ultimate sports dream is to watch them play and meet his favorite player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic!
