Meet Amelia – a beautiful and vibrant 15-year-old living with Down syndrome. From the very start, Amelia has shown incredible strength and resilience. She was born with a heart condition and had to undergo AV canal surgery at just five months old. At age one, she spent three months in the hospital and required a feeding tube to eat. In addition, Amelia battled RSV as a baby. Despite it all, Amelia is now a happy and healthy teen!
Amelia is best described as a total diva—in the best way! She lights up every room she walks into with her sparkling personality. Her family affectionately calls her their “sour patch kid” because she might roll her eyes at you one moment and give you the biggest hug the next. She thrives in the spotlight and loves being the center of attention.
She enjoys dancing with Expand Movement, cheerleading with the Panthers, and spending time at Gigi’s Playhouse with her friends. She also loves coloring intricate mandala designs and embracing all things fun and social.
Amelia lives with her mom, Mary, in Charlotte and visits her dad in Greenville, NC often. Sadly, Mary is currently facing a terminal cancer diagnosis, so their time together is deeply treasured.
Amelia’s biggest Dream is to dance and cheer with the UNC Charlotte cheer team—an experience that would mean the world to her and her family.
