Braxton's Dream

Meet Braxton

Meet Braxton, a brave and determined 16-year-old with a deep love for surfing and the outdoors. Surfing is where Braxton feels most alive, bringing him immense joy and peace.

On Christmas Eve 2023, Braxton’s life changed forever after being involved in a dirt bike accident. Thankfully, he was wearing a helmet, but he still suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to the pediatric ICU, where he was placed on life support. Braxton endured multiple surgeries, broken femurs, brain surgery for a pseudoaneurysm, a collapsed lung, and severe complications, including pneumonia, blood clots, and infections. For 25 days, his family prayed he would survive and regain consciousness.

On January 19, Braxton was in a minimally conscious state when he was flown to Shepherd Center in Atlanta to begin neurological rehabilitation. His recovery has been a long and grueling marathon filled with setbacks and triumphs. Braxton has worked tirelessly to relearn how to walk, talk, and eat, spending four months at Shepherd for both inpatient and outpatient therapies. Through it all, Braxton has never given up. Even on his toughest days, he gives 100% in therapy, pushes through the pain, and remains positive. His faith and determination continue to inspire everyone around him!

Now home and medically cleared to surf again, Braxton is ready to chase his ultimate sports dream: to surf the iconic waves of Hawaii! Braxton’s unwavering spirit, grit, and courage remind us all of the power of hope and perseverance.

Special thank you to the Four Seasons Maui for helping to make this Dream come true!

Braxton's Dream

Braxton’s Dream Experience: Surf, Smiles & the Spirit of Mahalo

Braxton’s Dream took flight—literally—with over 12 hours of travel to reach the sunny shores of Maui, Hawaii. But as soon as wheels touched down, the exhaustion melted into pure joy. Greeted by a driver holding a sign with his name (cue the signature Braxton smile), the Dream officially began. With laughter filling the van and warm island breezes blowing through the windows, we were already living the aloha spirit.

Upon arriving at the stunning Four Seasons Maui, it became clear—this was luxury designed with Braxton in mind. The staff welcomed the family like royalty, offering fresh juice, handmade leis, and a level of hospitality that made the family feel not just special, but seen. In their suite, the family discovered a tray of treats so beautiful it took 10 minutes to realize—yes, even the photos were made of chocolate. Instant smiles all around.

Day two was the most anticipated day so far. After fueling up at Braxton’s now-favorite breakfast buffet, the family headed out to meet professional surfer Cody Young at their surf spot—ready to bring this dream to life with thanks to Cody and Surfers Healing.

Braxton was nervous. Unsure if he’d be able to stand, unsure if it would feel the same. But with Cody’s steady encouragement and coaching, it only took about 20 minutes before cheers erupted from the shore. There he was—Braxton, standing tall and riding his board for the first time since his accident.

Mom’s tears said it all—watching her son reconnect with a piece of himself that she feared might have been lost. It wasn’t just surfing again. It was healing, belief, and joy crashing together like waves at his feet.

After an incredible two-hour session, the family grabbed lunch at a local gem and spent the afternoon recharging poolside at the hotel. That evening, they stepped into the heart of Hawaiian culture at a traditional luau. With fire dancing, music, and a feast that celebrated the island’s rich heritage, the family soaked up every second of this magical night.

It was a day that truly felt like a Dream—and they couldn’t wait to get back on the water tomorrow.

Another sunrise, another plate of fresh pineapple, and another chance to chase the waves. With renewed confidence, Braxton returned to the surf alongside his dad and the rest of the family. The ocean welcomed them with gentle swells and sparkling blue water. It wasn’t just fun—it was freedom.

After their surf session, the family rested and relaxed at the Four Seasons before a very special dinner at Ferraro’s, the resort’s flagship Italian restaurant perched above the coastline. Braxton tried crudo, tapenade, tiramisu, and cappuccino—all for the first time—and called the food “exquisite” with a grin that stretched ear to ear.

Later that evening, as live music drifted through the warm Maui air, Braxton quietly asked, “Why me? How did we deserve this?” Our answer was simple: “Because when you go through what you’ve been through and still choose love, hope, and strength—this is what comes back to you.”

The final full day was packed with meaning and adventure. The family joined their incredible driver-turned-ohana Brandon Ching for the famous Road to Hana tour—a winding, wonder-filled journey through Maui’s natural beauty.

They swam in waterfalls, tasted the best banana bread halfway to Hana, walked the black sand beaches, and shared lunch at Hana Farms, where “Auntie” welcomed them like old friends. The day closed with a peaceful moment on a quiet beach, watching sea turtles rest under the setting sun.

Braxton kept repeating, “Thank you.” And that word—Mahalo—took on a whole new meaning. It wasn’t just a thank-you. It was a full-hearted embrace of every moment, every person, every blessing.

Because for this Dreamer and his family, this experience wasn’t just a vacation. It was healing, it was joy, and it was a reminder that they are never alone.

Mahalo, Braxton. Mahalo to Four Seasons Maui, Cody Young, our partners, Dream Granter, Everest, and everyone who helped make this Dream come true. This was more than just a trip—it was a dream lived in full color.
