Meet Colby

Colby is a 20-year-old shining star with one of the brightest personalities you’ll ever meet. His smile, energy, and love for life are contagious and you can’t help but feel it every time he’s around you!

A cancer survivor, Colby faced his first battle at just 18-months-old when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. His fight included two years of chemotherapy, surgeries, and a 7-month hospital stay. Then, at age 5, Colby was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy — a form that does not respond to treatment — and he now experiences multiple seizures daily, requiring constant supervision. Despite this, Colby’s joy and optimism never waver.

He attends Southwest Senior High School several days a week, loves being with his classmates, and has a deep passion for sports. From cheering on the Florida Panthers, to participating in the JCC Maccabi Access games, to being a devoted University of Miami Hurricanes fan, sports are at the heart of his world. He receives care at UM Health, grew up attending Hurricanes games, and even remembers shooting hoops at a Beth Am camp that took place on campus. Basketball is his favorite — as he proudly says he’s fast on the court and can sink 3-pointers with ease!

When he’s not watching or playing sports, Colby enjoys bowling (with his own ball), roller coasters, singing, dancing, cheeseburgers, Chick-fil-A, ice cream, and all things sweet. He has crushed four spartan races and two DEKA events. Most recently, he completed a 5K race — starting in a wheelchair but walking the last 2.5 miles on his own.

Colby’s ultimate dream? To be a VIP at a University of Miami basketball game — shooting hoops with the team, high-fiving the players, and soaking up the excitement of game day from the best seats in the house.

We can already hear the crowd chanting: C-O-L-B-Y, COLBY!

Colby's Dream

Day one started with the most epic send-off! As part of his special needs program at school, Colby runs a milkshake stand. He was completely shocked when his customers for the day turned out to be Sebastian the Ibis and the Dream On 3 captains! In that moment, the entire school erupted. The band started playing, cheerleaders were chanting his name, and students and teachers held up signs — all for Colby!

It was a moment of pure bliss as our team told him that his dream starts NOW!

After a quick stop at Starbucks and a limo ride around Miami, Colby headed to the University of Miami for men’s basketball practice where he got to sit courtside! He shared fist bumps and photos with the players, and they all signed his basketball.

That evening, Colby had another unforgettable moment — throwing out the first pitch at the Miami Hurricanes baseball game! He was surrounded by 35 of his closest friends, family members, therapists, nurses, doctors, and the Dream On 3 team. Colby even made milkshakes for everyone at the game and spent meaningful time with the people who have helped him get to this moment. It was incredibly special.

We wrapped up the night with another limo ride and dinner at Colby’s favorite restaurant!

Day two started with an amazing shopping spree at the University of Miami bookstore! Colby picked out all the best Hurricanes swag and was fully geared up for the big game.

Then came the dream moment. Colby stood right by the tunnel as the Miami men’s basketball team ran out onto the court. Every player remembered him by name and ran over to give him high fives. It was incredible!

He watched the nail-biter of a game from amazing seats, and during a timeout Colby got to take the court himself. The entire arena cheered as he shot as many free throws as he could against former Dream On 3 dreamer Noah. Colby was absolutely loving every second!

After the game, we walked around campus, and of course made another Starbucks stop. The night ended with a delicious pasta dinner and a competitive game of Uno at the hotel with his favorite people — the Dream Team captains.

By the end of the weekend, Colby told us it was the best weekend of his life, and that he loves the hearts of everyone at Dream On 3.
