Meet Colby

Colby is a 20-year-old shining star with one of the brightest personalities you’ll ever meet. His smile, energy, and love for life are contagious and you can’t help but feel it every time he’s around you!

A cancer survivor, Colby faced his first battle at just 18-months-old when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. His fight included two years of chemotherapy, surgeries, and a 7-month hospital stay. Then, at age 5, Colby was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy — a form that does not respond to treatment — and he now experiences multiple seizures daily, requiring constant supervision. Despite this, Colby’s joy and optimism never waver.

He attends Southwest Senior High School several days a week, loves being with his classmates, and has a deep passion for sports. From cheering on the Florida Panthers, to participating in the JCC Maccabi Access games, to being a devoted University of Miami Hurricanes fan, sports are at the heart of his world. He receives care at UM Health, grew up attending Hurricanes games, and even remembers shooting hoops at a Beth Am camp that took place on campus. Basketball is his favorite — as he proudly says he’s fast on the court and can sink 3-pointers with ease!

When he’s not watching or playing sports, Colby enjoys bowling (with his own ball), roller coasters, singing, dancing, cheeseburgers, Chick-fil-A, ice cream, and all things sweet. He has crushed four spartan races and two DEKA events. Most recently, he completed a 5K race — starting in a wheelchair but walking the last 2.5 miles on his own.

Colby’s ultimate dream? To be a VIP at a University of Miami basketball game — shooting hoops with the team, high-fiving the players, and soaking up the excitement of game day from the best seats in the house.

We can already hear the crowd chanting: C-O-L-B-Y, COLBY!

Thank you to the University of Miami Collegiate Dream Team!
