Elijah is a courageous and determined 15-year-old who has been battling high-risk neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects immature nerve cells in children, since he was just two years old. Also diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer, Elijah was given only a 20% chance of survival, but his resilience and fighting spirit have brought him through countless challenges.
Over the years, Elijah has endured two bone marrow transplants, radiation to his kidneys and abdomen, and numerous surgeries, including the loss of one kidney. At the age of six, Elijah became a trailblazer when he traveled to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC to participate in a groundbreaking trial treatment called DFMO. He was the first patient from Atlanta to undergo this trial, and his bravery inspired many.
Elijah is now in remission, but his battle is far from over. He continues to navigate life with the support of a survivorship program, where doctors monitor him for long-term side effects from his treatments. Despite the challenges, Elijah remains a beacon of positivity and determination, proving that even in the face of adversity, hope and strength prevail.
Basketball has always been a source of joy and inspiration for Elijah. Whether he’s playing or watching, basketball has been a constant source of joy throughout his journey. His favorite team has always been the Golden State Warriors, and he has fond memories of watching their games during his treatments. Elijah’s ultimate sports dream is to be a VIP at a Golden State Warriors game.
