Meet Jacalyn, a bold, radiant young woman whose story is marked by resilience, heart, and an unshakable love for life. Jacalyn has grown up surrounded by encouragement, creativity, and a deep appreciation for sports, especially basketball.
At just 12 years old, Jacalyn’s life changed when she began experiencing severe and unexplained medical issues. What started as stomach pain turned into a complex medical journey involving Crohn’s disease, Behçet’s disease, Gastroparesis, POTS, Cushing’s disease, and Dysautonomia. With more than 40 hospitalizations and frequent trips to specialists all across the country, Jacalyn has faced challenges that most people could never imagine.
Despite the physical pain and constant uncertainty she faces, Jacalyn’s spirit has never wavered. She is an honor roll student who continues to value learning, creativity, and personal growth. Amidst the numerous hospital stays and countless doctors appointments, she has held on to hope and the belief that joy is still ahead of her.
Basketball remains one of Jacalyn’s greatest sources of strength and motivation. She is drawn to the Lady Horned Frogs not because of a single player, but because of the team itself—the unity, determination, and shared purpose they represent. Her ultimate sports dream is to spend time with the TCU Women’s Basketball team, feeling part of that team environment she loves so deeply. For Jacalyn, basketball is about more than just the game – it’s belonging, encouragement, and fighting together.
Through her time in hospitals, Jacalyn has been inspired by the nurses and medical staff who have cared for her, sparking dreams of a career in the medical field in the future. With her parents, her service dog Brees, and her unwavering determination, Jacalyn continues to face each day with bravery and grace. Her story is a powerful reminder that true strength is not defined by the absence of struggle, but by the courage to keep dreaming, connecting, and believing—no matter how hard the journey becomes.
