Joseph's Dream

Meet Joseph

Joseph is an 18-year-old whose love for sports is as big as his heart. Whether he’s competing in the Special Olympics, shooting hoops at the local YMCA, or cheering on his favorite teams from the couch, he simply can’t get enough of the game.

Joseph came roaring into the world six weeks early and was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. From day one, he’s faced challenges head-on with determination, courage, and an infectious sense of joy. Through years of therapy and hard work, Joseph has continued to grow, thrive, and show everyone around him that there’s no obstacle too big to overcome.

At just three years old, Joseph discovered his love for sports through the Special Olympics and he’s never looked back. Sports quickly became his passion, his confidence-builder, and his happy place. Whether he’s making a great play or sharing a high-five with a teammate, Joseph shines brightest when he’s part of a team. His outgoing personality and genuine love for people make him the heart of every group he joins.

Over the years, Joseph has become a devoted Phoenix Suns fan, with a special admiration for Devin Booker. Watching a Suns game live and getting the chance to meet Devin Booker would be an absolute dream come true for this sports-loving superstar. His classmates from the West Cabarrus Junior Dream Team are proudly rallying behind him; fundraising and supporting every step of the way to help make his dream a reality!

Joseph's Dream

Joseph’s Dream On 3 experience was packed with unforgettable firsts, incredible surprises, and moments that reminded everyone why these dreams matter so much.

The excitement began the morning of departure with a special sendoff surrounded by supporters from West Cabarrus High School JDT, the generous sponsor who made Joseph’s dream possible. A few students from the program even joined the celebration, cheering Joseph on as he began the adventure of a lifetime!

From the very start, Joseph was checking off major milestones. It was his first time riding in a limo and his first time ever flying on a plane. When he arrived in Phoenix, the VIP treatment continued as he was greeted by his personal chauffeur at the airport, making Joseph feel like a true star from the moment he landed.

The welcome only got bigger from there. The team at Kimpton Hotel rolled out the red carpet with a greeting team ready to welcome Joseph and his family and host them during their stay.

But the biggest moments were still to come.

The Phoenix Suns created an unforgettable experience for Joseph that went far beyond attending a game. On the morning of the big night, the Suns invited Joseph to their practice facility, where they welcomed him with open arms. He enjoyed a special breakfast prepared by the team’s chefs, complete with all his favorite foods, including plenty of apple juice. Joseph then watched the team practice, received a Phoenix Suns jersey, and collected autographs from the players.

That evening, Joseph experienced another first when he attended his very first NBA game.

And then came the moment no one could have imagined.

Joseph was invited to serve as the honorary ball boy during warmups, giving him the opportunity to rebound for the Suns players for an entire hour. It was a Dream On 3 first and a moment Joseph will never forget. He even got to rebound for his favorite player, Devin Booker, who surprised Joseph with a pair of kicks to remember the moment.

Joseph soaked in every second of the experience, staying until the very last moment of the game. His parents shared that something truly special happened that night.

Joseph found his voice again.

As he cheered loudly throughout the game, it was clear that the joy, excitement, and encouragement surrounding him had sparked something powerful.

Dreams like Joseph’s remind us that sometimes the greatest moments are not just the once in a lifetime experiences, but the confidence, hope, and happiness they help bring back to life.
