Justice's Dream

Meet Justice

Get To Know Justice

When you meet Justice, you will walk away knowing two things…this girl LOVES soccer, and she is one TOUGH 11-year old! Not for lack of trying, but Justice wasn’t able to keep up with her teammates in drills at soccer and everyday activities led to headaches and dizziness. A routine physical revealed what doctors originally thought was a heart murmur, but turned out to be an Atrial Septal Defect – holes in her heart.

After one failed surgery, at just 10 years old, Justice had open-heart surgery. Justice was on a hard road of rehab ahead of her – but took the challenge in stride! She pushed through all her rehab checkmarks, and at 6-weeks post-op, she was completely cleared for all activities. In her first soccer game back she even scored two goals! The only thing Justice may love as much as the sport of soccer is her hometown team, the Colorado Rapids. She wore her jersey every day in the hospital in case Rapids players just happened to come by. She doesn’t miss watching a game and knows all the players and their current statistics by heart.

Justice’s sports dream is to spend time with the Colorado Rapids team, especially her favorite player Michael Barrios. She would also love to meet the team’s Athletic Trainer. To be with her favorite players, who helped motivate her to recover from her surgery, would truly be a dream come true for this strong and determined young woman!

Justice's Dream

A Dream Come True!

Let’s playback the magic of Justice’s Colorado Rapids Soccer Club Dream weekend beginning with her surprise kickoff all the way through to the evening that Justice described as “the best night of my life!” Surprise, it’s Dream Day! An assembly full of students helped to celebrate Justice’s big weekend ahead. Signs and soccer balls, decorated by fellow students, were the colorful backdrop to an emotional surprise. Little sis, Raiin, said, “When I saw my sister walk up to the front of the assembly, I started crying because I knew it was Dream Day.”

Next stop: Colorado Rapids practice! Justice and her siblings were welcomed with “Barrios” jerseys for each and an all-access stadium tour. Justice had meet-and-greets with many players and coaches who were familiar and inspired by her story however, the 1:1 time with her favorite athlete, Michael Barrios, was the stuff sports dreams are made of!

Excuse me did you say chicken and waffles?? YEP, sure did! In Justice’s Dream application, she told us that eating chicken and waffles on the field with Michael Barrios would be next level. The Rapids set the stage, and Steuben’s Uptown brought the food. We knew it would be epic, but no one would have imagined that Barrios would consider this “one of the best experiences of his career.”

Cue sports announcers, Richard Fleming and Marcelo Balboa, who both took the time to “interview” our All-Star Dream Kid before she hit the field for warm-ups and some more time with the team on game day.

⚽️ Nothing but the best for our Dream Kids so next stop in the Executive Club Suite to watch the game-time action with Rapids Executive Vice President and GM, Pádraig Smith, and Senior VP of Business Operations, Wayne Brant.

Fireworks are the perfect ending to a beautiful Dream story and it’s even more special to watch them alongside Rapids players and their families. Michael Barrios and Lalas Abubakar showed up for a few final autographs and to give Justice a sweet goodbye.

Special thanks to those who huddled up for Justice: Colorado Rapids Soccer Club players, staff, Rapid Man and front office, Michael Barrios, Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, the Metropolitan Arts Academy, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, The Crawford Hotel – Denver Union Station, Urban Air Adventure Park, Syrup Breakfast, Lunch, & Catering, Steuben’s Uptown, Willam Yarbrough, Lalas Abubakar, Marcelo Balboa, Richard Fleming, and more! We would also like to give special thanks to Andrew with Two Brothers Transportation, who went above and beyond to care for Justice and her family.
