Meet Luke

Meet Luke—a bright, joyful 15-year-old with an infectious smile and a heart full of love. Luke lives with Down syndrome and alopecia, which are just a small part of who he is. What truly defines him is his resilience, spirit, and the joy he brings to every room he enters.

Luke communicates through gestures and short word approximations, and while it may take time to understand him, his emotions and intentions speak volumes. He also lives with low muscle tone, which can affect coordination and strength, but that never holds him back from jumping into the activities he loves with everything he has.

Sports are a huge part of Luke’s world. He plays basketball with The Journey League and baseball with Miracle League, and he’s a passionate fan of NC State—especially when it comes to football and basketball. He also loves music, his iPad, and spending time with his family, where he shines as a devoted big brother and a constant source of laughter.

Luke has faced challenges, from early feeding difficulties to communication barriers, but he continues to grow, thrive, and inspire everyone around him. His warmth, humor, and authenticity draw people in and remind us all of the power of joy, inclusion, and perseverance.

Luke is a dreamer who shows us what it means to never give up—and to live life with heart wide open. He is the kind of person who draws others in with his warmth, silliness, and sincerity. He makes people feel seen, valued, and included. Luke embodies the power of persistence, joy, and community. He shows us what it means to keep showing up, keep growing, and keep believing in what’s possible.

Luke's Dream

This weekend was filled with unforgettable moments, heartfelt connections, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences for Luke and his family.

Day one began with a special sendoff at Luke’s house, where family, friends, and CDT members gathered to wish him well. The CDT team led a meaningful huddle and shared a sendoff message that set the tone for the entire weekend. Luke was all smiles — especially when it was time to ride in the limo.

From there, the group enjoyed lunch at Mellow Mushroom, where pizza was generously provided for everyone. The afternoon continued at men’s basketball practice, where Luke sat quietly, fully engaged, taking in every moment. He toured the locker room, saw where the team gathers for talks, joined team huddles, and even shot baskets alongside the players.

Following practice, the family arrived at the AC Hotel Downtown, where staff welcomed Luke with a clap line that had him clapping right along. After check-in, Luke met Derek Whittenburg, a member of NC State’s NCAA Championship team, who signed a basketball and spent time taking photos. The hotel graciously comped all rooms, making the stay even more special.

The evening continued with a shopping spree at the Red & White Shop, where Luke enthusiastically helped mom and dad choose their gear. Dinner followed at Tobacco Road Sports Café, where the family enjoyed pool, foosball, driving games, and a delicious meal before heading back to the hotel to rest.

Day two started with breakfast at the hotel before heading to women’s basketball practice, followed by some downtime. The afternoon brought excitement at the men’s basketball game, where Luke gave high-fives as players headed into the locker room. One especially memorable moment was when #11, Quadir Copeland remembered Luke and called out his name. Mr. and Mrs. Wuf also stopped by to spend time with Luke and give him an autographed photo. Win or lose, the message remained clear — Go Pack Baby!

After the game, the group enjoyed a late lunch at Sammy’s Bar & Grill with the team, followed by bowling, arcade games, and receiving new custom shoes before returning to the hotel for the night.

Day three began with women’s basketball practice and shootaround, where Luke joined the huddle and delivered a captain’s speech. Afterward, the family enjoyed a meal at State Farmers Restaurant before returning to Reynolds Coliseum for the women’s basketball game. The weekend concluded with heartfelt goodbyes — until next time.

We are incredibly grateful to the Wolfpack men’s and women’s basketball teams, AC Hotel, Tobacco Road Sports Café, Lifestyle Limos (especially Paul, our amazing driver), the CDT members, and Garrett, who captured beautiful photos while supporting the family every step of the way.

This weekend will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
