Meet Malik

Meet Malik! This 17-year-old dreamer has been a fighter since the day he was born. Diagnosed at age two with second-stage brain cancer, Malik went through many rounds of radiation in order to overcome his battle. Due to the repercussions of the chemotherapy, Malik had to relearn how to walk and talk, however, he achieved every milestone with a positive attitude. Years went by and Malik was growing stronger every day!

That was until November of 2022 when he started experiencing constant headaches, which triggered multiple seizures. Malik was taken to the hospital and put on a medication that seemed to treat his condition, until March 8, 2023. Malik’s mom received a phone call from the school nurse explaining that Malik had lost control of the right side of his face and was having trouble walking. He was rushed to the hospital, and after many tests, it was revealed that Malik had suffered two strokes due to a blood vessel in his brain being damaged by radiation when he was younger.

One would think that his spirit would show the hardships he has lived through, but that could not be further from the truth. With his big smile and an even bigger heart, Malik is working hard to overcome these new challenges, just as he did many years ago.

Malik has always had a passion for football. Whether it be playing the game with his friends or watching it on TV, football is what he looks forward to on his most difficult days.

Malik’s favorite player is Tyreek Hill. He has always had admiration for his heart, hard work, and his talent on the field. Malik’s ultimate sports dream is to live out a VIP experience with the Miami Dolphins!

Malik's Dream

Malik’s weekend kicked off the moment he landed in Miami. Upon arrival, the transportation team whisked the family straight to the W Hotel. During the ride, Malik played his favorite artist—and Miami native—Rick Ross, joyfully rapping along the entire way.

When he arrived at the hotel, Malik was met with an incredible surprise. His room was decorated with balloons spelling out his name and a table full of treats, including doughnuts he wasted no time enjoying. After taking in the suite, the family explored the second floor to check out the pool and take in the beautiful view, which Malik’s mom and sister especially loved.

Once everyone settled in, the family ordered room service and took some time to rest before heading out for the evening’s Miami Heat game.

At the arena, Malik fist-bumped Tyler Herro before heading courtside for pregame shootaround. The game itself was electric. Even though the Heat ultimately lost by three, Malik had a blast—dancing, bobbing his head to the music, and cracking up with the Dream photographer. After a long day of travel and excitement, the family headed back to the hotel to rest up for day two.

Sunday brought the main event. The day started with a major storm, but just when it looked like the weather might disrupt the fun, the skies cleared and the sun came out. At the stadium gate, Malik and his family were greeted and taken straight down to the field to watch the Miami Dolphins warm up!

Never shy about meeting the stars, Malik fist-bumped Dolphins sack leader Bradley Chubb and was surprised with a signed mini helmet from his favorite player, Tyreek Hill. Afterward, the group headed upstairs and enjoyed a shopping spree at the Dolphins Team Store. Malik picked out a full-size helmet and plenty of team gear for everyone to wear during the game.

The game was a thrill. Malik cheered, danced, and soaked in every moment as the Dolphins secured the win!

The crew headed to Mr. Chow for Chinese food—a memorable experience in its own right. The service was attentive, and when a server placed a napkin in Malik’s lap, he gave them a hilarious “What are you doing?” look that had everyone laughing. The food was great, but the experience was even better!

After a memorable dinner, the family headed back to the hotel, ready for a good night’s rest after an unforgettable Miami Dream Weekend!
