Meet Thomas

Thomas is a fun-loving 10-year-old with a huge heart, an infectious laugh, and a love for all things sports, music, and reading. He lives with both Down syndrome and autism, which means he experiences the world a little differently than many kids his age—but once you get to know him, you’ll quickly see he is more alike than different. Thomas thrives on routine, has an incredible memory, and loves being silly. He enjoys reading Elephant and Piggie books, shooting hoops on his Pop-A-Shot (where he can rack up a perfect 999 points!), cracking eggs in the kitchen to “help Mom,” and belting out Ohio State fight songs.

Thomas has faced more challenges in his 10 years than most. He is a proud “heart warrior,” having undergone open heart surgery at age three. He has worked through years of therapies—physical, occupational, and speech—just to master skills like walking and safely eating table foods. He also lives with ADHD and Celiac disease, requiring a strict gluten-free diet and constant medical management. He’s endured countless procedures, hospital visits, and therapies, all while keeping a resilient spirit with unstoppable determination.

What makes Thomas truly special is his grit. Every milestone he reaches takes persistence, patience, and hard work—skills many of us take for granted. He never gives up, and no matter the setback, he comes back with a smile and a sparkle in his eye. Thomas is living proof that joy, kindness, and resilience can carry you through even the toughest challenges.

Thomas is a die-hard Buckeye fan, and his dream is to be treated like a VIP for all Ohio State sports. He wants to experience the excitement of Buckeye traditions—seeing the flag raised, cheering with the crowd, joining the band, meeting Brutus, and even stepping onto the court or field. For a boy who works harder than anyone to overcome life’s obstacles, being celebrated by the team he loves would be the ultimate dream come true!

Thomas's Dream

Thomas’s dream weekend kicked off in the most unforgettable way — with a surprise sendoff at Symmes Elementary that brought the entire community together. As he walked out of school, Thomas was greeted by a silent parade featuring the local high school band and cheerleaders, along with members of the police, fire, and sheriff’s departments. The smiles, the excitement, and the pure joy on his face said it all.

Next stop: Menchie’s for some well-earned frozen yogurt before heading north to Columbus. Once there, Thomas stopped at Rally House for official Ohio State gear, played Pop-A-Shot, and enjoyed his favorite drink — Buckeye Juice (red Gatorade with custom labels made just for him!).

The evening wrapped up with dinner at Preston’s Burger Joint with the OSU Collegiate Dream Team followed by check-in at The Graduate Hotel for a cozy and well-deserved night of rest.

Day two started bright and early at the Schottenstein Center with an incredible behind-the-scenes experience. Thomas toured the facilities, visited the locker room, and attended men’s basketball shootaround — where he met the team, shot around with the players, and collected autographs like a pro.

After a surprise breakfast visit from Grandma and Grandpa, it was back to the Schott for game time! Thomas watched the Buckeyes take on UCLA from a VIP suite, with teachers and friends stopping by to say hello. The highlight of the day? A special visit from Brutus, who completely made Thomas’s day.

After a huge Buckeyes win, Thomas joined the team on the court to sing the postgame victory song and then celebrated in the locker room with the players…a true dream come true.

The night ended at Star Lanes with bowling, Pop-A-Shot, arcade games, and Frosty treats to top it all off.

Day three was all about slowing down and soaking it all in. After sleeping in, Thomas spent the morning reminiscing over warm drinks and unforgettable memories. With full hearts, it was time to head home to Cincinnati grateful, exhausted, and smiling from ear to ear.

This weekend left its mark forever. Thomas is a Buckeye for life.
