Wendell was a typical 16-year-old—hardworking, driven, and full of big dreams. A proud member of his high school ROTC program, he looked forward to serving in the Navy one day. His eagerness to work led him to a job at a local trampoline park, but tragically, an accident there left Wendell with a broken neck, resulting in paralysis from the neck down with only limited movement in his arms and hands.
After months in the hospital, Wendell continued his journey of recovery at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Daily life now brings many challenges, as he even needs the help of an aide at school to complete simple tasks, such as feeding himself. Through it all, Wendell’s mom—his strongest advocate and biggest supporter—has been by his side every step of the way. As a single mom with limited resources and support, she has sacrificed so much, including her job to care for Wendell’s ongoing needs.
Sports have always played a huge role in Wendell’s life. In high school, he was part of the football program, taking charge of filming for the team. A lifelong, die-hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan, Wendell never misses a chance to cheer on his team. He especially admires one of his football heroes—Jalen Hurts, the former Alabama star and now starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wendell’s Dream is to meet Jalen Hurts and share a big “Roll Tide!” together while experiencing an Eagles game VIP-style. Life may look different than Wendell once planned, but with his eager spirit, southern charm, and unstoppable determination, his future is still bright.
