Meet Brantlee, a 10-year-old dreamer from Bennettsville, SC! This young man has a deep love of baseball and one wicked mullet! Brantlee has a spirit that is rooted in kindness, but he has a level of strength most people don’t realize.
Brantlee was used to being on the go all the time – hunting, running around with friends, and most importantly, playing baseball. In October, he was experiencing some calf pain in his left leg. They thought it was just sore muscles from having baseball practice the previous two days, however, the next morning Brantlee woke up and was unable to move his legs or arms. After being rushed to the hospital, doctors diagnosed Brantlee with Guillian Barré syndrome. This is a rare disorder in which your immune system attacks your nerves, resulting in paralysis throughout the body. A full recovery is possible, but an episode like this can happen again without any warning in the future.
This brave young man went from playing the sport he loved, to learning how to walk again. Brantlee has a long road to recovery in front of him, but is making progress day by day.
Something that brought Brantlee a sense of normalcy throughout his recovery is continuing to cheer on his Atlanta Braves. He has looked forward to watching their games, and rooting for his idol, Ronald Acuña Jr. Watching his favorite team gives him motivation that he will get back on that field one day.
Brantlee’s ultimate sports dream is to attend a home game at the Brave’s stadium and to meet his hero, Ronald Acuña Jr.!
