Edwin is a lively, kind, and smart 11-year-old who suffered from cardiovascular disease. He started noticing he could not breathe well, began swelling, and could not play as a young boy should. After several surgeries to try to alleviate stress to the heart and lungs, his cardiologists determined in December of 2013 he was in need of a heart transplant. His wait on the transplant list was ONLY 23 days, and in January he received his new heart at Levine Children’s Hospital.
He is doing well but takes 16 medications daily to help his new heart continue to adjust to its new little body. He is homebound for the remainder of the school year. He lives with his mom, dad, and two younger siblings, Maggie and Santos.
