Madeleine Golden (what an appropriate last name for this amazing teen) is an energetic and friendly teen who resides in Fort Mill, SC. Madeleine lives with multiple brain malformations that have been present since birth.
She has agenesis of the corpus callosum – a condition that is characterized by a partial or complete absence (agenesis) of an area of the brain that connects the two cerebral hemispheres. She also lives with absent septum pellucidum, aqueductal stenosis, Chiari malformation, and hydrocephalus. These conditions cause her to have crippling and chronic headaches and she has had multiple brain surgeries to try and relieve the pressure caused by her sagging cerebellum.
Madeleine has certainly been thrown many curve balls! Despite Madeleine’s challenges, she always has a smile on her face and LOVES to play sports – specifically softball. When she grows up she wants to work in the medical field so she can help kids with disabilities just like herself. How amazing is that?!
