Madeleine's Dream

Meet Madeleine

Madeleine Golden (what an appropriate last name for this amazing teen) is an energetic and friendly teen who resides in Fort Mill, SC. Madeleine lives with multiple brain malformations that have been present since birth.

She has agenesis of the corpus callosum – a condition that is characterized by a partial or complete absence (agenesis) of an area of the brain that connects the two cerebral hemispheres. She also lives with absent septum pellucidum, aqueductal stenosis, Chiari malformation, and hydrocephalus. These conditions cause her to have crippling and chronic headaches and she has had multiple brain surgeries to try and relieve the pressure caused by her sagging cerebellum.

Madeleine has certainly been thrown many curve balls! Despite Madeleine’s challenges, she always has a smile on her face and LOVES to play sports – specifically softball. When she grows up she wants to work in the medical field so she can help kids with disabilities just like herself. How amazing is that?!

Madeleine's Dream

Madeleine’s Dream Experience kicked off by our team knocking on her door and whisking her away to the airport! Once in D.C., Madeleine and her family headed to Pinstripes where they enjoyed lunch, playing bocce ball, and bowling. Next, they headed to check in at the Conrad Washington DC. The staff were wonderful and they even left some balloons, goodies, and a sweet note for Madeleine welcoming her to D.C The Dream Team wrapped up the day with dinner at Del Frisco and walking around the city a little. It was the perfect way to end Day 1!

On Dream Day, the Dream Team started the morning eating breakfast in the Blue Willow Room at the Conrad Washington DC. Next, they headed to the MedStar Capitals Iceplex to watch the team have their pre-game practice. After practice, Madeleine had the opportunity to meet not one, but two of the Capitals players! First she met T.J. Oshie who gave her a hockey stick and a Valentine’s Day goodie bag.️ She also got to meet Tom Wilson! He even took Madeleine and her brother’s jerseys back to the locker room to have the rest of the team sign them and they could not have been nicer! We are so appreciative of the time they spent with Madeleine and her family.

In the evening, Madeleine and her family came back to see the Capitals take on the Hurricanes! Before the game started, they took a tour of the concourse, ice rink, and the radio press box. The radio announcers even invited them back to listen to them call the game during the second period! The whole evening was so incredible and Madeleine is now interested in pursuing a career in sports management because of her experience.

Thank you so much to the Washington Capitals for helping make Madeleine’s Dream Experience so amazing! We know this is a memory that she and her family will cherish forever.
