Meet Peter

Meet Peter, a vibrant and outgoing 12-year-old from Boone, North Carolina. This 5th grader is a huge Appalachian State fan, and is so excited that it’s basketball season! He loves listening to the App State marching band while he cheers on his beloved Mountaineers.

Living with autism has never stopped Peter’s lively personality from shining bright. Peter loves his friends, and is always making his classmates smile with his larger-than-life personality and enthusiasm. Everyone agrees that Peter is truly a light at his school, in his community, and in his family.

The Appalachian State University Collegiate Dream Team has selected Peter as their 2025 dream recipient. The CDT will be working hard to ensure his dream to attend an App State basketball game as a VIP guest comes true. He hopes to conduct the band to help us all cheer on his Mountaineers and yell, “GO APP!”

Peter's Dream

Day one began with the Dream Team arriving at Peter’s home, ready to kick off his unforgettable adventure. With vibrant signs and a special gift—custom sneakers—Peter’s Dream Experience was off to a magical start. The moment they stepped into the limo, excitement filled the air as they shared songs, laughs, and stories. The group headed to Macado’s for a fun and delicious meal, fueling up for the rest of the day’s excitement. After lunch, they made their way to the campus bookstore for a shopping spree, where Peter picked out some unforgettable gear, before embarking on a campus tour that let him soak in the vibrant energy of the university. As the afternoon wound down, everyone arrived at Chetola Resort, where Peter and his family settled into their serene accommodations, relaxing by the pool in preparation for the evening’s festivities. The day culminated at the App State Women’s Basketball game, where Peter shared a special moment with family and friends. A group picture with the entire cheer and dance team, plus the mascot, capped off an amazing first day.

Day two unfolded with a relaxing breakfast at Chetola Resort, setting the perfect tone for another magical day. The morning began with an exclusive campus tour led by Audrey, the Director of Student-Athlete Development, where Peter enjoyed behind-the-scenes access to the basketball and football facilities. He got to see where athletes train and prepare for greatness, making the experience even more special. The group then headed to Makoto’s on Blowing Rock Road for a flavorful lunch, enjoying the lively atmosphere and delicious food. After some downtime to rest and relax back at the hotel, the group gathered for a celebratory dinner at Peppers, where the CDT came together to honor Peter’s incredible experience. The grand finale was nothing short of extraordinary—Peter had the once-in-a-lifetime honor of presenting the game ball at center court during the Men’s Basketball game, a moment captured by ESPN and shared with a national audience. Surrounded by friends, family, and classmates, Peter watched the game unfold, knowing this unforgettable experience would stay with him forever. The day ended with joy and gratitude, making it the perfect conclusion to an extraordinary Dream Experience.

Way to go, App State Collegiate Dream Team!
