Introducing Griffin, a remarkable young scholar with a passion for math and a heart for sports. Griffin, now 18 years old, has embarked on an inspiring journey since his early days as a 12-year-old Seahawks fan and aspiring sabermetrician, someone who interprets professional sports through the analysis of statistics.
Griffin’s love for math was undeniable, leading him to attend an elite math camp across the country. He dreamt of applying his love of mathematics to football, much like sabermetricians do in baseball. But life took an unexpected turn when, at the age of 10, Griffin’s quality of life took a dramatic shift. He became fatigued, suffered from persistent headaches, stomach pains, blurry vision, and constant ringing in his ears. Concerned for his well-being, his family sought answers, taking Griffin to GI specialists and neurologists as far as Chicago and New York, resulting in weeks of hospital stays for pain management.
Through countless tests, doctor visits, and treatment plans, Griffin and his family continued their quest for answers. Despite the uncertainty, Griffin persevered, excelling academically. He graduated as valedictorian from Levine Middle College High School, not only with a high school diploma but also with an Associate in Science and an Associate in Arts from Central Piedmont Community College.
Now, Griffin’s journey is taking him to new heights. In August 2023 he began his freshman year at Brown University and The Warren Alpert Medical School through the prestigious Program in Liberal Medical Education. Griffin’s chosen fields of study are Health & Human Biology and Anthropology, and his dream is to become a pediatric neurologist or neuro-oncologist, inspired by the incredible doctors who have supported him throughout his medical journey.
Griffin’s story is a testament to his resilience, determination, and unwavering pursuit of his dreams despite facing health challenges. His future is filled with promise, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact he will undoubtedly make in the field of medicine.
