Meet Drake

Introducing Drake Starnes, a 16-year-old from Lancaster, South Carolina, who has spent his teenage years bravely battling leukemia. His story is one of relentless determination, resilience, and the unwavering support of his family as they navigate the most difficult of circumstances. Leading up to his diagnosis, Drake began experiencing unexplained body pains and fatigue. These symptoms, which had initially seemed like something minor, began to intensify to a point where it could no longer be ignored. In, 2021, Drake’s world was forever changed. Drake was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia B-cell (ALL), an aggressive form of cancer that primarily affects the blood and bone marrow.

The news was devastating, but the Starnes family quickly shifted into action. Drake began chemotherapy immediately at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC, where his journey of treatment would begin. After completing his chemotherapy regimen, Drake received the news that he was cancer-free. In celebration, he rang the bell at the hospital— It was a moment of victory, not just for Drake, but for everyone who had supported him along the way.

However, the relief was short-lived. Just one week after celebrating the end of treatment, Drake began experiencing familiar symptoms once more. Drake’s family knew they needed to seek further medical attention. Reluctantly, they returned to the hospital for lab work, hoping for the best but fearing the worst. Tragically, their worst fears were confirmed. The leukemia had relapsed—returning more aggressively than before. Once again, Drake found himself facing the unimaginable.

The journey ahead may be longer, and the challenges greater, but Drake’s story is far from finished.

Drake finds joy and inspiration in cheering on his beloved Clemson Tigers and admires head coach, Dabo Swinney and QB1, Cade Klubnik. Drake has learned an invaluable lesson from his role models: no matter how difficult the journey may be, there is always strength to be found in the fight. Dream On 3 is excited to team up with the ACC to gift this amazing individual a once-in-a-lifetime experience with his favorite collegiate football program as they compete for the 2024 ACC Championship title!

Drake's Dream

Drake’s Dream Experience at the ACC Championship was one for the books!

Drake, a normally laid back and stoic guy, really started to come out of his shell by the end of his first day, which we couldn’t have loved more. After an amazing send off at Drake’s house, the limo took the team to the Omni Uptown who went above and beyond for our team. They truly rolled out the red carpet and catered the entire stay to Drake. They welcomed us at the door upon arrival and even decked out both rooms with any and all Clemson gear you could think of. The staff also gifted him a chef shirt signed by the entire staff after learning that Drake wants to be a chef and dietitian when he is older.

Next, we headed to Bank of America Stadium for a stadium tour including time on the field. Drake was totally blown away when he saw his face on the Jumbotron welcoming him personally. After the tour, we headed to Clemson’s press conference where Dabo immediately asked where Drake was. He gave Drake the opportunity to ask a question and invited him out on to the field to meet the team. While Drake loved meeting everyone, he was hoping to get some time with QB1, Cade Klubnik. As soon as Drake approached him, Cade was so generous with his time talking about anything and everything.

The day ended with a delicious and welcoming VIP dinner at Fahrenheit in the best seats in the house.

Day two started with a shopping spree at Cabela’s. Drake loves hunting, fishing, and riding ATVs and dirt bikes, so he was pumped for a trip to one of his favorite stores. After lunch at People’s Market, Drake picked out a brand new pair of Yeezy’s from our friends at Request.

After some downtime, the crew headed over to ACC Fan Fest at Romare Bearden Park. After enjoying all they had to offer, our friends at the ACC escorted Drake through the player entrance of BOA Stadium. The group spent an hour and a half on field pregame and Drake was surprised by the ACC mascots for a special Drake dance off! While Drake was a little nervous before the coinflip, after showing off his autographed Klubnik jersey, he walked right out to midfield to assist.

The game was a true nail biter. SMU scored with 16 seconds left putting them in the lead. However, with 9 seconds left, Clemson kicked a loooong distance field goal resulting in a win! Drake was smiling from ear to ear and said, “let’s get on the field.” He walked down to the end of the section and was happily let on to the field to celebrate with the team. Dabo, along with every player he met the day before, sought out Drake to celebrate with him. It was incredible to witness.

The night ended with Drake sharing, “this is the best day of my life.”
