Meet Emma

Meet Emma – a kind and compassionate 18 year old from Omaha, NE. Emma lives with an intellectual disability due to brain damage from a birth defect. She has had multiple surgeries, but does not let anything slow her down from doing her favorite thing, playing sports.

Emma has never met a sport she didn’t love. You can find her playing football, volleyball, track and field, and bowling. Her all time favorite sport is powerlifting. Emma has been putting in the hours at the gym and can deadlift a personal record of 198 lbs!

She is passionate about serving alongside Special Olympics to advocate for accessibility to sports for all people. Her dream is to compete in powerlifting at the Special Olympics USA Games and, someday, the World Games.

When Emma isn’t playing sports, she can be found in the kitchen baking or watching her favorite movie, Mamma Mia. She loves going to UNL sports camps and meeting the athletes.

Emma’s sports dream is to be a VIP at a Huskers Football game! She has never attended a game before and dreams of being in the tunnel walk, meeting players, and seeing the collegiate weight rooms.

Emma constantly demonstrates respect, kindness, and care for those around her. We are thrilled to make Emma’s Dream come true to celebrate and care for her, just like she does for everyone else.

Emma's Dream

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Collegiate Dream Team showed so much love and care for their Dreamer and it showed in everything they did! Emma’s Dream Nebraska Huskers weekend kicked off by the Dream Team surprising her at home letting her know that her Dream started NOW! She was stunned to see her new friends at the door waiting for her to hop in the limo.

Once in the limo, the team told Emma they were headed to Topgolf , somewhere she told them she has always wanted to go. The Topgolf staff went above and beyond celebrating Emma and the UNL CDT with signs, gifts, and a whole lot of love from their staff.

The night ended at Graduate Lincoln where Emma did her best to get some rest before a jam-packed day two. Although, her mom told us that Emma kept getting up to look out the window at the Huskers stadium!

Saturday kicked off with breakfast at the hotel and a full recap of how awesome Friday was. After breakfast, the Dream Team headed to Memorial Stadium for a tour with the athletic department. Emma was able to check out where the student athletes eat and study, but most importantly, she was able to check out the football weight room. Emma LOVES sports, especially powerlifting, so she was overjoyed to see a college weight room. She even took the time to show off her skills and teach the CDT correct form for some of her favorite lifts!

Emma was able to visit the recruiting room and even make her own recruitment video with all of the professional equipment the team has access to. She loved every second of her tour and was so stoked to be able to check out what things are like behind the scenes!

After the tour, Emma enjoyed a shopping spree at the team store and lunch at Muchachos with the whole crew. After a quick break, everyone headed to the stadium for the full Nebraska pre-game experience. After enjoying the Nebraska red carpet, Emma was ready to head into the stadium, where she was escorted on field to watch warmups! Here, she met the dance team, a number of UNL athletes, and even Trev Alberts, the UNL Athletic Director. Emma was even able to stay on the field to watch kickoff!

Once in their amazing seats, the Dream Team dubbed Emma the Nebraska Football good luck charm helping UNL get their first win of the season.

Emma was thrilled to stay for the whole game and take in every moment of her Dream Experience.

UNL CDT, we are so proud of you and everything you accomplished to make Emma’s Dream come true! You loved on her and her family in such special ways and this weekend is certainly one for the books.
