Jae’Mari's Dream

Meet Jae’Mari

Meet Jae’Mari, a 12-year-old Buffalo Bills superfan from Gastonia, NC! Seeing them both Josh Allen and Damar Hamlin overcome obstacles to get to where they are in the NFL motivates Jae’Mari to continue dreaming despite his current circumstances.

Shortly after Thanksgiving of 2023, Jae’Mari was admitted to the hospital due to strep throat that quickly turned into a case of sepsis. Although his body fought hard to overcome the infection, in January of 2024 he had to have both of his legs and his pinky fingers amputated. He went from being a normal eleven year old boy to fighting for his life.

Although this journey for Jae’Mari has been life-changing, his spirits are high and he is excited for his future. While recovering, all he could talk about was how badly he wanted to return to the football field again. His determination and joy has inspired us all. Most people would see this as a stop to their dreams, but Jae’Mari is already working on climbing this mountain. He is still in the very early stages of his fight, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to live his dreams.

Jae’Mari’s ultimate sports dream is to meet his biggest heroes who are giving him strength throughout this journey. To spend time with Josh Allen and Damar Hamlin, would be a dream come true for this resilient young man!

Jae’Mari's Dream

Jae’Mari’s Bills dream was incredible! His Dream kicked off with a send off at his home surrounded by friends and family including Sarah, his Child Life Specialist from Levine Children’s Hospital who referred Jae’Mari to Dream On 3. Also on site were members of Jae’Mari’s prosthetist office, OrthoFit, who surprised him with custom Buffalo Bills prosthetics. We were in awe, as was Jae’Mari. Jae’Mari was also celebrated by Davidson Football coach, Steven Jackson, who is working to regain his mobility after a tragic car accident. The two were able to bond over their stories, which was magical to witness.

Before takeoff, the flight crew honored Jae’Mari by sharing his story over the PA system, which in turn started a Bills chant on the plane! Upon landing, Jae’Mari, who is originally from Buffalo, was greeted by family with the warmest welcome.

Our first stop was the New Era flagship store in Buffalo. The New Era Cap Foundation went above and beyond for Jae’Mari and the Dream team by providing a custom, completely over the top experience. The team enjoyed a behind the scenes tour, a shopping spree (including merch not even released to the public yet), and a delicious lunch from La Nova, a Buffalo staple.

The icing on the cake was a surprise by former Sabres player, Pat Kaleta, who gifted Jae’Mari a $10,000 check to cover the cost of his new microprocessor knees courtesy of the Hits Foundation! We were stunned.

After a sweet treat at Carnival 365, Greater Buffalo Adaptive Sports hosted us at their wheelchair football practice. Here, Jae’Mari met Adam Page, Paralympic athlete and three time gold medalist!

The following day we headed to St. John Fisher University for Buffalo Bills training camp. The Buffalo Bills Foundation went above and beyond for our team and we are incredibly grateful! Upon arrival, Jae’Mari was gifted a Josh Allen jersey, Bills helmet, and tons of Bills swag and Dion Dawkins delivered an unreleased hat to Jae’Mari before the team watched training camp from the sidelines. After practice, head coach Sean McDermott invited Jae’Mari to the middle of the field to break down the huddle! From here, Jae’Mari met a number of players including Josh Allen and Damar Hamlin – his two favorite players. He was even able to gift each of them a new hat from New Era!

The day ended with dinner and fun at Tully’s, Jae’Mari’s absolute favorite restaurant in Buffalo. Not only did the manager come in on his day off to meet Jae’Mari and the team, the Tully’s team covered our entire meal and provided gift cards for the arcade along with lots of swag!

This Buffalo sized Dream was a 10/10!
