Meet Liam

Meet Liam! This 13-year-old dreamer, originally from Cleveland, Ohio is a diehard Browns fan. Without fail, you can find him on the couch every Sunday cheering on his favorite team in a Browns jersey and drinking out of his favorite Cleveland mug.

Before Liam was born, doctors diagnosed him with spina bifida myelomeningocele – the most serious type of spina bifida. Liam had his first surgery the day he was born and has since had a large surgery each year including brain, spine, and leg surgery. Thankfully, Liam has been free of surgeries for the last two years and is excited to start his 8th grade year.

Liam’s diagnosis has never slowed him down. When he moved to Charlotte in 2018, Liam joined the Rollin’ Hornets – a wheelchair basketball league where he quickly found his rhythm. Now as a team vet, he is seen as a leader and he looks forward to seeing his teammates every week at practice. He travels all over the east coast for games and has made great friends through the program. He has even recently joined the Rollin’ Rackets, a wheelchair tennis player program!

Liam looks up to Brown’s player Myles Garrett. He admires Myles’ determination and the way he carries himself. If given the chance to meet him, Liam said he would “talk his ear off.” Liam’s ultimate sports dream would be to attend a Browns home game to watch his idol play. He would also love to see how the team prepares for a game!

Liam's Dream

Liam’s Dream Experience kicked off at Roberta Road Middle School with a mysterious assembly that both the students and teachers knew nothing about! Liam was fully shocked to learn that his Dream Experience was starting, as were all of his friends and teachers. After being cheered on by everyone at school, Liam jumped into the limo waiting for him out front and headed to the airport.

Everyone was so excited to land in Cleveland, especially Liam’s parents, who used to live together in Cleveland and even got married there! Night one ended with a pizza party and lots of fun conversation filled with excitement for the days ahead.

Day two started with chatting about Liam’s future plans over breakfast before heading to the Browns practice facility. Liam enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the facility before heading out to the turf for practice! Liam was able to watch the team go through their pregame walkthrough, which he loved every minute of. Towards the end of practice, head coach, Kevin Stefanski came over to talk to Liam and invited him out to the field to break down the huddle. He loudly and proudly counted them down surrounded by the entire Browns team! He even had quarterback Jameis Winston come over and thank him or being there.

After practice, we head to Sandbox VR. They graciously catered lunch for us before our three amazing sessions of virtual reality play. Liam quickly warmed up to his first time playing VR and ended up having a total blast. Saturday ended with a delicious dinner at Cleveland Chop followed by behind-the-bench seats to the Cleveland Charge game, thanks to our friends at the Browns.

On Sunday, the excitement was palpable! Upon arrival at Huntington Bank Stadium, we entered through the media entrance, just like the players, Liam was then escorted on to the field where he was able to watch warmups for almost an hour. During warmups, James Proche II approached Liam to play catch a few times after recognizing him from practice the day before. Liam even got to keep the ball they were practicing with!

After, Liam headed into the tunnel for his duty as the flag kid of the game. He was glowing as he got to pass the flag to Proche as the team ran onto the field. The game was cold and rainy, but that did not stop Liam from having the time of his life!
