Meet Mikayla

Meet Mikayla, a goal-oriented 21-year-old who loves Nebraska football! She enjoys the electric atmosphere of Memorial Stadium and how the players unite together to become an unstoppable team.

Mikayla is an athlete and lover of all sports who has continued to face obstacles that test her mental and physical strength. Mikayla didn’t say her first word until she was six-years-old, which was followed by an autism and apraxia diagnosis. With her diagnoses, she has limited memory retention and a fear of the unknown, making it difficult for Mikayla to relate to her peers.

Despite her diagnoses, Mikayla loves sports and wants to try every single one that she can! That love of sports has helped her overcome and push through the obstacles in her life, reminding her that she is capable of anything she sets her mind to.

Mikayla is now attending University of Nebraska – Lincoln through the Trailblazers program, where she is working towards getting her Associates Degree in Coaching.

Mikayla’s dream is to attend a Nebraska football game as a VIP Husker and cheer on the athletes she admires!

Mikayla's Dream

Dream Weekend started with a full on surprise kick off at Mikayla’s house including the University of Nebraska – Lincoln Dream Team! After a limo ride to The Graduate Hotel, the crew headed to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for a full facilities tour.

The first stop was the men’s basketball locker room where Mikayla had the opportunity to shoot some hoops with the team! After, she was able to meet the women’s basketball team, tour their locker room, and play a game of knockout…which she won! Both teams kindly gifted Mikayla lots of new Nebraska goodies.

The next stop included the women’s volleyball team, who Mikayla follows closely. Mikayla was thrilled to meet Maisie Boesiger, who she follows on TikTok, and was equally excited to chat with Rebekah Allick, one of the top volleyball players on the fifth ranked team.

Next up was a visit to the swim and dive area, where we met Gena, who competed in the Olympic trials for the 400 fly this year. Our final stop at Devaney Sports Facility was wrestling, where wrestler Scott Robertson demonstrated some moves with our captain, Taylor, as his opponent. Mikayla found the wrestling match incredibly entertaining.

The day concluded with a surprise visit to the Nebraska East Union Bowling alley, where the entire Huskers bowling team joined us! They played a few games with us, offering tips and tricks, although Mikayla, who already knew how to bowl a strike and pick up a spare with ease, didn’t need much assistance. The team ended the evening by giving her a signed bowling pin, bowling shoes, and four Huskers Bowling shirts, which Mikayla proudly wore the next day.

Day two kicked off with a tour of Memorial Stadium. The tour included highlights such as the Osborne Athletic Complex (North Stadium), the display of National Championship and bowl trophies, Heisman and major award trophies, the Nebraska Football Experience Room, a view of the weight room, the Hawks Championship Center, a walk through the tunnel onto Tom Osborne Field, the All-American wall display, the captains photo display, the media room, and exclusive on-field access!

After the tour, the UNL CDT surprised Mikayla with an exclusive pair of Nebraska Adidas sneakers over lunch before heading to the school store for a shopping spree.

Then it was game time where we were led us behind the scenes at Memorial Stadium through the tunnel and onto the field, placing us right next to the players! We had the unique opportunity to watch the pre-game practice and stand by the tunnel as the Huskers charged out to the roar of the sold-out crowd.

We headed to our private suite for kickoff, giving us the perfect view of the entire field. Mikayla, her family, and the CDT had a blast cheering on their beloved Huskers together.

As the Huskers clinched a thrilling victory, we returned to the hotel, completely overwhelmed by the incredible experiences of the past couple of days

On the last day, we enjoyed a team breakfast with Mikayla and her family back out on the quad. A tearful goodbye marked the end of an incredible weekend!
